Get a Library Card
We would love to have you use our library! Stop by and sign up for your FREE library card anytime during business hours. We’ll be happy to help you! While we mostly serve the residents of Wellman, Kalona, Keota, and the surrounding areas, library cards are available to anyone within the state of Iowa.
Open Access enables eligible Iowans to check out physical materials at over 600 participating Iowa public and academic libraries. As a result, Iowans have greater access to more library resources, more choices in library service and the convenience of using a library where they work, shop or visit.
Valid state-issued photo ID and proof of address is required for library card signup. For children, a parent or guardian will need to sign them up for an account. Teens with valid state-issued ID may get a limit access card without parental signature required.
The Wellman Public Library is funded by City of Wellman property tax dollars, with support from Washington County Board of Supervisors.

The Basics
Library cards are required for checkout. If you are unable to present your card at checkout, a librarian can look up your account with valid photo ID at the circulation counter.
Self checkout requires scanning your library card. No account lookups are possible at the self checkout kiosk.
