While we mostly serve the residents of Wellman, Kalona, Keota, and the surrounding areas, library cards are available to anyone within the state of Iowa.

Open Access enables eligible Iowans to check out physical materials at over 600 participating Iowa public and academic libraries. As a result, Iowans have greater access to more library resources, more choices in library service and the convenience of using a library where they work, shop or visit.

The Wellman Public Library is funded by City property tax dollars, with support from Washington County Board of Supervisors.

Library cards are required for checkout. If you are unable to present your card at checkout, a librarian can look up your account with valid photo ID at the circulation counter.

Self checkout requires scanning your library card. No account lookups are possible at the self checkout kiosk.

If you are a resident of Wellman or rural Washington County, your library card offers you access to over 100,000 digital titles. Through the Libby app, you can access e-books, audiobooks, and digital magazines.

To get started simply:

• Download the Libby app from the app store on your phone or tablet.
• To login, you will need to select the “Wellman Scofield Public Library” from the library selection list.
• Enter your library card number
• You should be set!

Now you’re ready to checkout your first item:

• Simply browse until you find a title you like
• Click “Borrow” and you can enjoy your item*

*If the item is unavailable, it will be put on hold for you. As soon as it is ready, you will receive a notification in the app.
