Thank You for an Amazing Year!

Thank You from our Library!

As this year winds to an end, we cannot help but look back, our hearts full of gratitude, at all of the amazing things 2022 has brought with it.  We have enjoyed a year full of programming and wonderful patrons using our library services.  With over 6,200 visits and more than 2,500 program attendees, thank you to everyone who joined us at the library and our programs!

We loved sharing more about dinosaurs at our Dino Adventure this summer with the help of Doug Campbell and Justin Schmid, which also helped us fundraise for our Library Expansion Project.  Our summer was filled with watching children learn about plants with Reha Greenhouse, butterflies with Absolute Science, African drumming with Fonziba Drums, reptiles with The Cold-Blooded Redhead, building with hula hoops with Sparkle Hoops, firefighters with Wellman Volunteer Fire Department, and Iowa animals with naturalists from Kent Park and Coralville Lake.  It was such a fantastic summer full of learning and fun activities!

A special thank you to our summer reading sponsors: Hills Bank, Ferations Bank, Freeman Foods, Campbell Chiropractic, Catch’em Critters, Girl Scout Troop #3979, Kalona Coffee House, PSI, Suzanne Barloon (Usborne Representative), DJ’s Casual Cafe, Tuscan Moon, Kalona Chocolates, Kalona Brewing Company, and the Washington County Board of Supervisors.  Without their support our summer reading program would not have been possible!

Our library grew by almost 500 items this year.  A huge thank you to Wellman Rotary Club for awarding us a grant to add two new shelves, new childrens’ chairs, a new outdoor bench, and expand our junior graphic novel section by 20 books.  Suzanne Barloon with Usborne Books supported us with our Book Fair this past September, helping us add 32 new books to our shelves.  Thank you, Suzanne.

Our library would not be what it is without the support of our city.  The City of Wellman has been an amazing partner this year.  We greatly enjoyed working with them on the water fun day at the park this summer, Light the Night, and their support of our Library Expansion Project.

Additionally, we would like to say the biggest thank you to the Washington County Riverboat Foundation for their generous support of our Library Expansion Project.  The grant we received from them will allow us to expand the library, more than doubling our current space and adding a programming room so we can offer even more events for our community.  Thank you to PSI for supporting our new programming room with your donation.

Again, we are so very thankful to everyone who has supported us at the library this year either through joining us at events, checking out books, or donations.  Our hearts are overjoyed as this year comes to a close.

Warmly,

Erin Campbell, Carrie Geno, Megan Harris, and Laurelin Geno
