Its been a little less than a year since we got our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program up and running and we are so pleased with the program’s success so far! We’ve had lots of little ones sign up and we’ve recently had our first few reach the 1,000 book goal! If you’ve never heard of 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, check out their website to learn a little more about the whole program. Here at WSPL readers receive a packet when they register for the (free!) program that includes some free goodies and their first reading log. Once they’ve completed a 100 book log, they simply bring that into the library and receive a small prize as well as getting their picture up on our wall of readers! They receive a larger prize for their 500 book milestone and a special t-shirt when they reach 1,000 books!
Coinciding along with our first anniversary of starting the program at our library, the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten organization is having their annual Big Read. Which encourages parents and caregivers to read a book to their little ones on October 2.
To celebrate this day, we are going to have a special story time here at the the library! We will be reading several short children’s books and counting those on our reading logs. We will also be available to sign up any new readers who want to join in on the fun! (Program registration is not necessary to attend the event).
If you have any questions, please contact us here at the library!
